THE BIG PICTURE
Volunteering is not for everyone. Especially when it comes to working with or around horses. It’s hard work. It takes patience. It takes consistency. But the rewards are so much greater than the costs.
And at Hope For Horses, we need you more every day!
Last year Volunteers contributed nearly 1500 hours of time to Hope For Horses.
That’s more than four hours a day, 365 days a year!
Our volunteers are involved in every single aspect of what we do. Every day they muck stalls, groom horses, mend things, pick up and deliver things, respond to reports of neglect, support fosters, make phone calls, fundraise, and do those million and one tasks that keep things running.
Volunteers need to be at least 18 years of age and must sign a liability waiver. If you would like reserve a slot at the next Volunteer Orientation, we invite you to complete our Volunteer Application.
ORIENTATION
Volunteers come in all shapes and sizes and skill levels. And the best place to start with Hope For Horses is at Orientation.
New volunteer Orientations are held about once a month, and play an important role in your experience at Hope For Horses. It’s not only where you meet other volunteers and the horses for the first time, it’s where you’ll learn about our philosophy and why your individual talents are so important. The class takes about two hours to complete, and is required for all new volunteers. You should dress in casual clothing and shoes that can be worn around horses. No open-toed shoes, please! In order to attend, you will need to first complete a Volunteer Application.
WORK PARTIES
Work never stops at Hope For Horses. And volunteers play a vital role in everything we do. Periodically we schedule “work parties” to accomplish special tasks. Sometimes the day involves manual labor, such as pulling weeds or deep-cleaning the stalls, or mending fences. We also schedule Work Parties to help pull together special events, such as a fundraiser or Volunteer Appreciation Day.
Work parties are a great way to volunteer if you would like to give something back to your community, but can’t commit to a weekly schedule. It’s also a great way to spend the day with your family or co-workers or friends, working together as part of a team. In order to participate in a Work Party, you will need to complete a Volunteer Application. Orientation is recommended, but not required to participate in a single event.
SPECIAL PROJECTS
Not every task requires that you come to Hope For Horses. We use lots of virtual tools, so some work can be done anywhere you have access to the Internet. And because our foster and adopter network is widely distributed, we might be need help in your local area.
