BUILDING A STABLE ENVIRONMENT SINCE 2001 ®

Nonprofit organizations face many challenges.  There are the normal bumps in the business road of defining a mission and sticking to it, creating a sustainable financial model that will allow the business to maintain itself or even grow over time, finding and keeping talented people who will help you do the work.

But nonprofit organizations also face many other challenges too.  There is always competition among businesses who reach out to the same customers or offer similar products  or services.  And it’s no different in the nonprofit arena.  Nonprofit organizations like horse rescues compete for donations and have to differentiate themselves in order to support from contributors or volunteers.

The biggest challenge for most nonprofits is money.  And to generate money you either have to be a whiz at fundraising or be held in high regard by people who believe in what you do.  So a nonprofit organization’s reputation among its supporters as well as the general public is of extreme importance.

At Hope For Horses we want to make a difference.  We want to share with you the highs and lows of the work that we do.  Over the next few weeks, we’ll be telling the story of how one rescue of fifteen horses generated a firestorm among a small group of people, and how that firestorm threatened to destroy the work that Hope For Horses does.

There are lots of learning lessons in the story.  There are many places where each of the organizations or individuals made mistakes or could have acted differently.  There is anger, frustration, envy, pride, misunderstanding, misinformation, and even a love story or two.

What’s important to understand is that everything you are about to read is based on information that either involved the writer firsthand, or was obtained from public records.  We have made every attempt to be factually accurate, or have stated when a point made is an opinion and not intended as a statement of fact.  If you have corrections of fact or would like to make a comment, please feel free to contact us.   Please do not make personal comments as they are completely inappropriate in a business context and will not be responded to.  The goal here is not to create yet another forum but to tell the story of what happened and where it has led.
